Lionel Messi heads the squad list for the Argentine national team for friendly matches against Honduras and Jamaica this September in the United States.

Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso, Fiorentina defender Lucas Martínez Quarta, Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios and Fiorentina attacking midfielder Nicolás González, who were on the preliminary list and are usually called up by coach Lionel Scaloni, were left out of the final 28-player squad.

The absences of Exequiel González and Palacios are due to the fact that they are not in optimal physical condition.

On the other hand, the presence of defenders Nahuen Pérez (Udinese) and Facundo Medina (Lens) and midfielders Enzo Fernández (Benfica) and Thiago Almada (Atlanta United) are surprising, with little or no experience in the Albiceleste.

Two trials in the US before the final list

Argentina will face Honduras on September 23 at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium and then Jamaica at New Jersey’s Red Bull Arena on September 27.

This Thursday’s payroll is the last that Scaloni prepares before defining those summoned for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Argentina will debut in Group C on November 22 against Saudi Arabia, will face Mexico on the 26th and will close its participation in the group stage on the 30th against Poland.
