Paris SG star Lionel Messi, in the recovery phase after contracting covid-19 during the Christmas holidays, is absent for Saturday’s PSG-Brest match at the Parc des Princes, on the 21st date of Ligue 1 , said coach Mauricio Pochettino this Friday.
This is the tenth game of the French championship that the Argentine will miss, between injuries and late returns of his team.
“Leo is better. He remains under the supervision of the medical staff. We hope he will return to us as soon as possible,” said the coach.
Following the press conference from the club’s training center in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, PSG specified that the player will join the group “progressively next week.”
The former FC Barcelona player tested positive for coronavirus during his year-end holidays, which he spent with his family in his hometown of Rosario.
Since his return to the training center, on Thursday, January 7, the ‘Flea’ has trained apart from the group. Messi could return to competition on Sunday, January 23, against Reims.
Positive in covid-19 on January 6, the Argentine winger Ángel Di María returned to collective training and has options to be a starter against Brest.
And the Spanish center-back Sergio Ramos could play his first minutes in the Parc des Princes as a Parisian player on Saturday.
