In a message released this Saturday, August 10, María Corina Machado made a new call to the country’s Armed Forces and police forces, not to commit abuses against the population and not to become accomplices of crimes against humanity.
“Dear Venezuelans, I will be using this channel to communicate with each of you in the days ahead,” said Maria Corina Machado, leader of the Venezuelan opposition, in an audio broadcast on Saturday, August 10.
From a place where he has been sheltered for several days, he said that the opposition parties will not abandon the victims of repression or the streets. He invited people to continue the protests to demonstrate the unity of Venezuelans.
“Today and every day I call on you to light a light for freedom so that the world knows, and especially our imprisoned and fallen brothers and their families, that here no one abandons anyone, that here no one is left behind, that we are all united, all for all,” he said.
He said that these actions seek to make the international community aware of the Venezuelan situation after the presidential elections of July 28, and that the population will continue to pursue its demands despite the repression of the authorities and after their doubts about the results given by the National Electoral Council (CNE) that declared the president Nicolás Maduro the winner.
«We will never leave the victims of repression alone and we will not abandon the streets, we will do so with intelligence to protect ourselves. In the face of these abuses, we must be united and firm; in the face of provocation, we must be calm and intelligent. We will not leave the streets, we will go all the way, until the truth prevails, until popular sovereignty is respected.» Machado said.
The Comando Con Venezuela, for its part, reported that in the next few hours they will call for a large worldwide mobilization. “We reaffirm that we claim the right to civic, organized and spontaneous citizen protest.”

Machado stressed in her message that the Maduro administration seeks to confuse the population with “contradictory mentors” and “terror campaigns” to paralyze peaceful protests.
He said that the magnitude of the opposition’s victory with candidate Edmundo González Urrutia and the solidity of the evidence have “unleashed the fury with which the regime has threatened us for these 25 years. Here and everywhere in the world, the tools used by totalitarian minds have always been to instill fear, produce isolation, create confusion.”
“We have to remember that their goal is to eliminate our hope, our faith in a better future. This is a war on our lucidity and our will. They want you confused, resigned, submissive, hopeless. And the first step to counteract these maneuvers of the regime is to understand how they work,” he said.
This is why it is essential that all Venezuelans inside and outside the country clearly recognize the objectives behind the “strategies of terror” in order to defend the will of the Venezuelan people and thus act collectively to overcome and defeat violence and intimidation.
He once again sent a message to the military and police forces. “The Venezuelan Armed Forces and the Venezuelan police know that the percentage of their ranks that are on the lists of criminals against humanity is very low. That is why we must appeal to all the military and police citizens so that they do not fall into these abuses and therefore on those lists.”
