MESCyT imparte “Primera Conferencia de Innovación y Vinculación IES-Empresa de la Región Norte”

Santiago – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) through the Vice Ministry of Science and Technology, held the “First Conference on Innovation and Linkage IES-Company of the North Region”, in the Central Auditorium, Postgraduate Building, of the Open University for Adults (UAPA) of this city.

This activity is part of the science, education and technology policies that the MESCyT Minister Dr. Franklin García Fermín has been developing. The Vice Minister of Science and Technology of the MESCyT, Dr. Genaro Rodríguez Martínez, on his behalf, stated that “Eco-Innovation is an inclusive approach that seeks profitability in the production of goods and services, being friendly to its environment”, during his participation in the meeting whose central theme was “Eco-Innovation: Key to productive sustainability and the competitiveness of the North Region in the local and international market”.

In this sense, Rodríguez Martínez indicated that the activity aims to “guide sustainable development, clean energy and environmental protection in the Dominican Republic, from a regional point of view, by reducing the impact of solid waste, increasing of resilience in the face of environmental pressures and the efficient and responsible use of natural resources, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, the National Development Strategy and the National Innovation Policy for 2030”.

He warned “that companies are currently more oriented towards the environment and must have more resources on sustainability issues: therefore, a growing social, political, academic and business awareness of the importance of developing sustainable innovations is coming.”

“It is for this reason that from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) through its Vice Ministry of Science and Technology together with the Directorate of Innovation and Knowledge Transfer we propose a “Cycle of Conferences on Innovation and Linking IES- Companies “throughout the country,” he concluded. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Higher Education Institutions (IES), the Research Centers (CI), the business sector and the mayors of the Northern Region.

Given that environmental concerns are more common as a result of some events of global importance that impact at the local level, in May 2022, the Ministry of the Presidency of the Republic through its Innovation Cabinet presents the “National Innovation Policy 2030: for a Future-Proof Dominican Republic”.

The goal of this project is to develop talent for the fourth industrial revolution, in addition to creating modern skills for the future, promoting a sustainable culture with the environment and favoring innovation as the key to a new economy.

The specific objectives of the activity are to promote a strategic vision of the concept of sustainable development, promote an eco-innovative culture in the Northern Region through HEIs, train high-level specialists responsible for the productive development of the Northern Region in accordance with environmental, cultural, social and economic orientations; encourage cooperation and development between the main actors of the system that makes up eco-innovation; increase support in the production and provision of eco-innovative services; formulate projects in the area of ​​consumption, savings and the substitution of traditional energy for clean energy in the productive sectors of Cibao; and better use of solid waste.
