Referring to the case of former anti-drug chief Maximiliano Dávila imprisoned this Monday, former President Carlos Mesa considered that drug trafficking penetrated high levels of the Government in the last 16 years, most of them in charge of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS).

Through his Twitter account, the also leader of the Citizen Community stated that “the evident links between Dávila, investigated for drug trafficking, and Morales, point to the penetration of this crime at high levels of government, especially in the last 16 years.

In this context, he stated that “an independent investigation of a justice system controlled by the current political power is urgently needed.”

The former director of the Special Force to Fight Drug Trafficking (Felcn) was sent to the San Pedro de La Paz prison for the alleged crime of legitimizing illicit profits, and not for drug trafficking, as reported in the accusation of a court of New York, United States.

Before entering prison, the former police chief investigated by the US agency DEA for alleged links to drug trafficking, assured this Tuesday that the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, violated the entire process to “incriminate” the head of the MORE, Evo Morales.

“The Minister of Government has violated the entire process, because he is trying to incriminate President (Evo) Morales,” Dávila said upon entering the San Pedro prison.

The former national director of the anti-drug force declared himself “innocent” and a “victim” of Del Castillo, who he assured did not know what he was doing.

Opposition legislators are convinced of the links between Dávila and Morales and have asked that the former president be investigated.
