Merchants from the Arequipa and Junín region warned this Wednesday about an imminent shortage of essential products, due to the fact that the South Pan-American Highway and the Central Highway are blocked as a result of the indefinite strike of heavy cargo carrierswho protest the rise in fuel prices.
According to testimonies collected by RPP, the merchants of Arequipa indicated that there are only products for one more day. “As the products do not arrive at the market, from Thursday and Friday we would feel a shortage here in the market”, commented the president of the Metropolitan Market of the White City.

“What should arrive is the tomato, lemon, green beans and other vegetables that come from Lima and Camaná”, he added.
Added to this situation are the dozens of buses and vehicles that are stranded due to the blockades.
This same critical situation occurs in the Junín region, where merchants have also expressed their concern, because according to what they said, the trucks that transport food have not been arriving for three days, which will generate shortages to the detriment of the entire population.
In this region of the center of the country, the roads also continue to be blocked for the third consecutive day due to the indefinite strike that not only heavy cargo carriers abide by but also farmers’ and dairy farmers’ unions, according to RPP.

According to the PNP report, the sections of the Central Highway at kilometers 75, 78, 92 and 95, between Jauja and La Oroya, as well as kilometers 1, 11 and 18 of the Tarma route, have been blocked. -Jauja.
While in the provinces of Chupaca and La Merced, blockades have also been reported on the Central Highway itself.

The president of the Defense Front of Agricultural Producers of Junín, Angel Misayauri, told the station that they have not received any response to their claims from the Executive Branch. Among these, the reduction in the price of fertilizers, since they assure that its value has tripled, and of fuel.
In the provinces of Jauja and Huancayo, the urban and interprovincial transport service has also been suspended, forcing citizens to travel on foot. Meanwhile, the land terminals remain closed and the sale of tickets to the interior of the Junín region has been suspended.
The Regional Directorate of Education has also ordered the suspension of face-to-face classes because acts of vandalism were recorded yesterday in the center of the city of Huancayo.
