The bet to oblivion
The PAN deputy Ana Villagrán, a member of the animal welfare commission in the Congress of Mexico City, assured that both the head of government Claudia Sheinbaum and the mayor Parra hope that with the passage of time, the issue of the fire and the sale of animals is forgotten, as well as in the media and social networks so as not to affect interests, especially politicians with merchants.
“I don’t know if there are economic commitments with animal traffickers because we would have to investigate the corruption networks in that market, but what is a fact is that they don’t want to lose that patronage commitment, it bothers me that after this fire, no there are also changes from the central government”, he expressed.
In this same sense, Arturo Berlanga, director of the AnimaNaturalis association, described the actions of the authorities as a total omission of the animal protection law, in force in the capital, because regardless of whether there is any certificate or that it has ever been allowed, today more and more sectors of society are against animal abuse.
“It is shameful that the day of the fire has arrived, the animal surveillance brigade, the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, have seized animals and have cowardly returned them to the tenants because they became aggressive, the authorities played and bet that the issue will be forgotten”, he claimed.
The activist said that as civil society organizations, they will continue to raise their voices and denounce the sale of animals and mistreatment in the Sonora market or any other place, although they ruled out demonstrations or blockades to avoid confrontations.
At the close of this work, the Venustiano Carranza mayor’s office did not issue any balance or official position, through its spokesperson, regarding the sale of animals in the Sonora Market and the progress of the promise made nine months ago.
