In São Paulo’s birthday week, the city delivered the revitalization of the São Paulo municipal market building (photo), known as Mercadão. Inaugurated in 1933, the space underwent interventions for complete restoration of the façade and attachments, installation of pillars and pending, floor change and replacement of tiles, as well as the integration of new safety technologies.
Currently, Mercadão receives, on average, 10 to 12 thousand visitors on weekdays and 20 to 30 thousand on weekends, being one of the main sights of São Paulo. The data is from the City Hall.
With a total area of 22,147 m², with 18,601 m² built, the Mercadão houses 256 boxes, which include emporiums, butchers, fishmongers and restaurants. Located in front, the Kinjo Yamato market, which is also municipal, is still in the restoration phase with completion of completion until August this year. The site has 109 pits and tents, totaling 365 points of commerce between the two markets.
Projects
Both are currently administered by the Mercado SP concessionaire, which performed the work through the approval of the restoration projects with the preservation agencies (Conpress and Condephaat). According to the city, so far the interventions had an investment of $ 45 million.
“Each step prioritized the cessation of damage, the guarantee of the watertightness of structures and the development of comprehensive improvements, including hydraulic, electrical, drainage, electrical discharge protection, coverage review and structural enlargements,” said the municipality, adding that Accessibility was implemented.
The interventions in the Mercadão building were completed and delivered last Monday (20), but repairs to the outside areas, including parking lots and sidewalks, recently received the approval of the protective agencies and have not yet started.
