MIAMI, United States. — Representatives of the European Parliament condemned this Thursday the arbitrary arrest and disappearance of José Daniel Ferrer, general coordinator of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), who was arrested on July 11, 2021 when he was preparing to participate in the massive protests that took place place in more than 50 cities of the Island.
The release, signed by Dita Charanzová, Javier Nart, Leopoldo López Gil, María Soraya Rodríguez Ramos, and José Ramón Bauzá Díaz, demands that the solitary confinement regime and the inhuman conditions of detention to which Ferrer is subjected be stopped, requests that Ferrer be guaranteed family members a clear and broad framework for the supply of medicines, food and visits that the opposition leader may require; and urges that he be guaranteed immediate access to a proper medical examination and the medical care he requires.
The complaint by the MEPs comes after the United Nations Committee against Forced Disappearance sent a letter to the Cuban regime to inform it of the reopening of the Urgent Action for the Forced Disappearance of José Daniel Ferrer.

With the Urgent Action for Enforced Disappearances, the United Nations Committee against Enforced Disappearances urges the Cuban regime to adopt all necessary measures to inform his relatives about the whereabouts of José Daniel Ferrer, establishing and enforcing the proper communication channels. among them.
Through the Action, the Cuban State is also required to facilitate Ferrer’s communication with the outside world, as provided in Article 17 of the Convention.

The statement also recalls that, to this day, José Daniel Ferrer is missing and his family has no certain or official information on his whereabouts or his state of health.
