Between today and Saturday, 14 MEPs travel to Mexico to evaluate the bilateral relationship and discuss with Mexican legislators the Mexico-European Union (EU) Global Agreement –whose ratification is pending–, cooperation in security and migration.
Europeans attend the 28th meeting of the EU-Mexico Joint Parliamentary Commission (JPC), the first since the start of the covid-19 pandemic, according to information from the European Union delegation in Mexico.
Gender equality, social cohesion, the green transition will also be addressed.
Massimiliano Smeriglio, who heads the European delegation, pointed out that in Mexico City and Quintana Roo We will address the issues that we consider to be priorities in the European Union-Mexico relationship, starting with the Global Agreement, whose conclusion is drawing near and will allow us to take a substantial step forward in our relations in all aspects, including the operation and effectiveness of the JPC
.
The members of the delegation belong to different political groups that make up the European Parliament, including Christophe Hansen (Luxembourg), José Manuel Fernandes (Portugal), Andreas Schwab (Germany), Željana Zovko (Croatia), Georgios Kyrtsos (Greece), Teuvo Hakkarainen (Finland), as well as the Spaniards Clara Aguilera, Javier López, Ibán García del Blanco, Jordi Cañas, Diana Riba i Giner, Mazaly Aguilar and María Eugenia Rodríguez-Palop.
