MEP Soraya Rodríguez: “April is the month of impunity” in Nicaragua

The MEP Soraya Rodriguez He recalled the five years of the rebellion of April 2018, where thousands of self-convened Nicaraguans rose up against the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

The parliamentarian pointed out, on her Twitter account, that this is another year of resistance but also of impunity “of an increasingly cruel dictatorship.”

Referring to the latest episodes of siege and repression, and mostly against the Catholic Church, Rodríguez said that “these days have shown how the regime’s neurosis for absolute control leads any nucleus of people gathered with a common interest to be considered as a threat”, for which he assured that it is necessary to “reinforce actions against the dictatorship”.

He stressed that yesterday, Thursday, April 13, he organized a meeting with the International Network for Human Rights Europe in Latin America (RIDHE), civil society and the representative for human rights, Eamon Gilmore. “We continue with the people of Nicaragua,” he emphasized, without mentioning the reasons for the meeting.

After these five years of civic rebellion, and where Ortega continues to attack the people of Nicaragua, the parliamentarian emphasized that “in Ortega’s flight forward, anyone can be a dissident, anyone can be an enemy.”

The Ortega regime keeps more than 30 political prisoners behind bars, has exiled and stripped the nationality of more than 300 Nicaraguans, and instead of solving the country’s crisis, has declared April 19, National Day of Peace, with the objective, according to opponents, of trying to make the people forget their crimes against humanity.
