MEP Javier Nart: We work to create complications for the repressive Ortega-Murillo regime

Javier Nart: "The judges are as guilty as the one who tortures"

MEP Javier Nart, from the Renovar Europa political group, affirmed that the European Parliament (EP) is working to “create all the conditions to generate complications for the repressive regime” of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo. This after a resolution was approved on September 15 in which 540 European parliamentarians requested to activate the democratic clause of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Central America.

“The idea that the European Parliament has, certainly, is first to be in solidarity with the Nicaraguan people; and second, to create all the conditions to generate complications for the repressive regime”, indicated the MEP in an interview with the program This weekbroadcast on Facebook and YouTube due to the television censorship imposed by Ortega.

He stressed that the governments of Europe are “clear” about the situation of serious human rights violations suffered by Nicaraguans and “there is absolute unanimity” in the actions they will take to pressure the Ortega Murillo regime.

“Europe has things very clear and the vote in the European Parliament has been more than 500 votes in favor and twenty few against (…) so, there is absolute unanimity regarding the situation in Nicaragua,” he stressed.

Regarding the possible application of the democratic clause, he stressed that it is not in the interest of the EP to affect the Nicaraguan people, “but if there is aid, that aid has to go directly to the Nicaraguan people and not that it remains in the hands of an organization, which it is the repressive, dictatorial, fascist administration.”

Close spaces to the regime

The resolution on Nicaragua, approved by the EP, in addition to condemning “in the strongest terms” the repression and arrests of members of the Catholic Church in the country, in particular the arrest of Bishop Rolando Álvarez, urges the Member States of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Security Council to initiate “a formal investigation into Nicaragua and Daniel Ortega” for crimes against The humanity.

In the document, MEPs also ask the Nicaraguan regime to release “immediately and unconditionally” all political prisoners, including Bishop Álvarez, and “that all judicial proceedings against them and the sentences imposed be annulled.”

Nart points out that, with all these actions, what is sought is to increasingly close off the spaces abroad for the Ortega regime.

“What it is certainly about is creating a ghetto, creating a personal, institutional and economic circle, where these characters, who in addition to the country, what they have is the country of money (…) because they have absolute difficulties to locate it anywhere to be able to enjoy it outside of Nicaragua. That is where we want to go, to go blinding them access to the location of their wealth abroad, ”he explained.

The deputy considered that if these sanctions requested by the EP are applied, especially on the investigation that they hope the International Criminal Court will open, the regime and its accomplices “will have an international persecution and will only have Venezuela, Cuba and Korea as an alternative for their departures. from North; well, with some expansion, Bashar al-Assad’s Syria and Belarus, and Russia.”

In addition, he recalled that among the accomplices of the regime are “exquisite well-educated, cultured and reasonable characters such as those we represent as participants in the repression, who are the prosecutors, who are the judges, the magistrates, who from the height of the toga and of judgment, they are the repressive leg of the monster”.

“These characters will not be able to go anywhere when the International Criminal Court opens a case,” he commented.

“We will do everything for Nicaragua”

The Spanish MEP appreciated that until now the tools that have been used to respond to the repression in Nicaragua have not been sufficient, although he stressed that personally in each resolution he tries to “place what I understand is essential” and support progress ” progressively and gradually close the spaces of impunity for the Nicaraguan dictatorship.”

He affirmed that the European Union and the international community must do “absolutely everything possible” to support the restoration of democratic freedoms in Nicaragua and the release of all political prisoners.

“We will do absolutely everything, what I want to tell you is that Nicaragua has a MEP in the European Union, and that MEP is me. I am an MEP from Spain, but I am also an MEP from Nicaragua, from the Nicaragua for which I fought”, he stressed.

He pointed out that the recent repressive escalation of the Daniel Ortega regime against the Catholic Church only shows that Nicaragua is under a “pathological dictatorship, which will end, and which means enormous suffering for the Nicaraguan people.”

In the last month, the Daniel Ortega regime has unleashed an unprecedented hunt against the Catholic Church in Nicaragua. It keeps a dozen priests imprisoned, including Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, who has been under house arrest since August 19; more than a dozen priests and laity were forced into exile; he expelled missionaries of charity.

Likewise, it uses the official propaganda media to spread national and international news against the Church in general, which even involves hoaxes about religious with allegations of sexual abuse, arms trafficking and money laundering.
