The Minister of Public Works, Edgar Montaño, this Saturday blamed the Government of Santa Cruz for the environmental damage caused by the illegal construction of a metal bridge over the Parapettí River, a work carried out by the Mennonites.

“There is a breach of duties by the Santa Cruz government. They have violated Forest Law 1700, in its article 42 on forest crimes and article 105 of the Environmental Law, which sanctions from one to ten years in prison, the Political Constitution of the State in its articles 33 and related”, said Montaño .

He also indicated that this space is a “Ramsar” site, wetland places protected as they are considered cradles of biological diversity, that is, they are productive environments in the world and a refuge for various species of flora and fauna.

According to Montaño, the Government did not take any action, nor administrative and technical acts, during and after construction.

He said that the bridge built over the Parapetí River does not have hydrological or topographic studies, it does not have a structural calculation or a maintenance schedule, therefore, there is damage to the environment that the Government of Santa Cruz must repair.

This Saturday, the Government of Santa Cruz stated that “it will not grant the environmental license to a construction that has been carried out illegally and clandestinely,” referring to the Mennonite bridge. He accused the government of seeking legalization of the illegal metal bridge.

For the Government, the Ministry of Public Works intends to follow the same illegal action of the Forest and Land Authority (ABT) and the National Service of Protected Areas (Sernap), dependent on the Government, which initially had knowledge of the illegal construction and the deforestation generated by the opening of a road 14 kilometers long and 25 meters wide in the Izozog Ramsar site, despite this, the clandestine work was not stopped.
