The presidential candidate for free candidacy and current member of the Panameñista party, Meliton Arrocha, spoke in the Panama Today evening edition about the new system maintained by the Electoral Court for collecting signatures and said that although it is true there have been problems, the authorities have Focused on making correctives on time.
“Indeed, the process has been quite a challenge, the Electoral Court is establishing a process that has indeed had flaws and in general terms has gone quite well, but has not been without some observations and we have seen that the court is taking note of this situation and has corrected it in such a way that the system is more friendly”, he specified, warning that a level of greater interaction is still needed so that the Panamanian people can give that vote of confidence to the candidates for free application.
Regarding the expulsion process that the party’s prosecutor, Porfirio Batista, initiated against him for running for free without authorization from the Board of Directors, Arrocha said that he does not believe that this process has been initiated by the prosecutor, but by a command higher hierarchical.
Let us remember that the prosecutor announced that he will ask the Court of Honor and Discipline for the expulsion of two figures from the party for registering as candidates for free candidacy and among them was Arrocha.
“My perception is that the decision must have been instrumentalized by someone above the prosecutor, it is a political act of trying to make an expulsion to measure, there are more than 70 pre-candidates for the free candidacy who are members of the Panamanian party and it seems that with this undersigned is with whom there is a special interest in expelling from the Panamanian party,” he said, emphasizing that he does not believe that this process will prosper.
“I do not believe that the president of the party, the prosecutor or any of the party authorities is going to continue with the expulsion process,” he pointed out and indicated that the number of candidates who have freely chosen to belong to the party only show the flaws conjunctural situations that Panamanians are going through.
“In my opinion it is a detachment, a disconnection on the part of the Panamanian leadership that is far from what is needed and expected by the people,” he warned.
And he added that the party’s current proposals are far from the needs of the Panamanian people, and that the current leadership is not making a real opposition.
