MEF: Petroperú Board of Directors will be appointed this Tuesday

Ministro de Economía y Finanzas, José Arista Arbildo. ANDINA

The new Board of Directors of the state company Petroperu He will be appointed this Tuesday, October 22, during the Shareholders’ Meeting. This was reported by the Minister of Economy and Finance, José Arista.

“Today at 3:00 in the afternoon I met with my colleague Rómulo Mucho and for tomorrow we are calling a Shareholders’ Meeting to appoint the directors that will be published in the newspaper (El Peruano) on Wednesday. So tomorrow we name the directors,” he emphasized.

Arista gave these statements after the 31st Meeting of Finance Ministers of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), and related events held between October 18 and 21.

Chinese Economy Growth

The minister also explained that he spoke with his counterpart from China, who told him that they seek to grow at rates greater than 5% annually.

“I was talking with the Minister of Economy of China, in this last quarter they had a growth of 4.7 and they aspired to have 4.8%, but that still seemed weak to them. “They aspire to have a five or more than five (percent) for next year,” he said.

“They think that if that turns out to be too weak, they may be preparing a next one. But the idea is to more or less maintain the growth of China, which is basically a dominant player in all Asian economies, close to 5 percent, something that has not happened in 2024,” he added.

Energy export to Ecuador

On the other hand, he said that Peru has electricity to export to Ecuador, but there is a lack of connectivity with the neighboring country to bring this energy.

“So, this year we are going to start working a lot on having greater connectivity with Ecuador in order to avoid these energy shortage problems. We have plenty of energy, they lack it. It is more obvious in this case, to give them that energy,” he said.

Regarding the energy source, he highlighted that evidently everyone is now focused on searching for more sustainable and more environmentally friendly energy sources.

“Basically, there is a lot of commitment to renewable energy. In fact, Peru is along those lines. For next year there are plans from many companies that want to come and invest. Many of them are already doing it, in certain areas of Peru they are generating energy based on natural and renewable resources such as wind and sun,” he commented.
