A decision meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon between residents, leaders, authorities, members of the Espinar Management Committee and representatives of the Antapaccay company, in order to determine whether or not to approve the designation of a new ‘bonus solidarity’ for the 44,000 inhabitants of the Cusco province of Espinar.
The approach was made by the Single Front for the Defense of the Interests of Espinar (Fudie), whose members demand the payment of this bond with the budget of the Framework Agreement between the population of Espinar and the Antapaccay mining company, an amount supposed to be used in works and projects for the province.
In a conversation with Sergio Huamaní, representative of Fudie, he pointed out that they await the approval of the municipality and the private company, members of the Management Committee, so as not to ‘delay’ the delivery of the money to the residents.
It is worth mentioning that the Southern Mining Corridor was previously blocked due to this issue. In the Paraccaypata sector, dozens of residents interrupted the passage of the encapsulated vehicles that transport mineral, noting that the mining company has until September 5 to pronounce itself in favor of its initiativeotherwise the demonstrations would continue.
During 2010, a bonus of one thousand soles was already approved under the same modality as the one being attempted now, so the residents achieved their goal through blockades and demonstrations in the mining corridor, that time they mentioned that the giving of this money would be done only once.
From the Antapaccay mining company they have indicated that they oppose the delivery of this money because the budget of the Framework Agreement cannot be used to distribute money to the residents, but to generate works and projects for the province of Espinar.
