“As soon as I turned 16, I began to travel the world, thanks to beauty pageants. Although I only won the crown a few times, in each of those contests I achieved triumphs that I once thought were unattainable for a girl-woman of humble origins. For the first time, traveling with the name of my country in big letters, written on a band on my chest, I felt the pride of fulfilling a dream. And so, since 2011, I have enthusiastically immersed myself in the cultures and history of the people of Asia, Europe and the Americas,” she shares on her profile.

The dictatorship against Miss Nicaragua

Although the dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo initially congratulated Palacios on her victory, after photos of Miss Universe circulated on social media in which she is seen marching with the blue and white flag against the dictatorship, the government withdrew the congratulatory note.

The Sandinista regime created its own beauty pageant last April, after accusing the Miss Universe representation in the country of the crimes of conspiracy and treason and banishing its former director. Karen Celebertti left the organization in December, after the police sent her back on the same plane in which she was returning from Mexico, arrested her husband and one of her sons and accused them of the crimes of conspiracy and treason.

According to the police, which has not offered evidence, the now ex-director of Miss Nicaragua and her family had planned to “take to the streets again” in December 2023, as part of the population did in April 2018 when anti-government protests broke out.
