From Wednesday until September 8, the French capital will be the epicenter of the seventeenth edition of the Paralympic Games, where 78 Colombian athletes will compete in 12 disciplines with the hope of surpassing their performance in Tokyo 2020.

The Colombian Paralympic Committee has selected para-cyclist Paula Ossa and swimmer Carlos Daniel Serrano as the national flag bearers for the opening ceremony, which will take place in the iconic Place de la Concorde and on the Champs-Élysées.

This event follows the tradition of the Olympic Games, which were also held outdoors on the River Seine.

“The names of Paula Ossa and Carlos Serrano symbolize excellence, sportsmanship and determination. Their careers and achievements reflect years of hard work and always enhance the national tricolor,” the Colombian Paralympic Committee said in an official statement.

Profile of the standard bearers

Paula Ossa, She is an outstanding Paracycling cyclist, with experience on the track and road. She has excelled in the Parapan American Road Championships in Peru 2019, the Paracycling Road World Championships in Italy 2018 and the Paracycling Track World Championships in Brazil 2018.

Her evolution and dedication have positioned her as one of the country’s leading runners.

Carlos Serrano, At just 25 years old, he is one of Colombia’s most successful swimmers, having won 2 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

She has set several world records and is one of the country’s main hopes for winning more medals at Paris 2024.

Colombia, with a delegation of 76 athletes, is looking to match or surpass its performance in Tokyo 2020, where it won 24 medals. Expectations are high and the country is preparing to experience moments of great excitement and pride in the coming days.

The Paralympic event promises to be a showcase of talent and effort, and Colombia is ready to once again demonstrate its commitment and passion for inclusive sport.
