Medvedev makes it through the first round of Roland Garros

Hoy Paraguay

Russian Daniil Medvedev, number 2 in the world, qualified for the second round of Roland Garros after beating Argentine Facundo Bagnis (103rd) by a triple 6-2, this Tuesday on the third day of the Parisian Grand Slam.

Very solid in his game, Medvedev landed 35 winners and broke Bagnis’s serve eight times, who wore a cumbersome bandage on his right leg.

“I tried to do my best, but I’m not in my best shape. I have had a problem with my leg for a week,” admitted Bagnis, 32, at a press conference.

“I came to Roland Garros to prepare myself, to try to give 100%, but today, after the warm-up, I felt pain again and I even thought I wasn’t going to be able to play, although I wanted to continue, finish the match and enjoy the atmosphere, but the reality was harsh,” he added.

Medvedev, for his part, was very happy: “I love Roland Garros, especially since last year”, when he reached the quarterfinals after losing in the first round in his first four appearances, the Russian tennis player declared after the match. .

“I hope to go further this year,” added the Russian, who will face Serbian Laslo Djere (56th ATP) in the second round.

Medvedev benefited from the draw, since he is in the lower part of the table, with the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas as the main rival until the final, while the three main contenders for victory (Djokovic, Nadal and Alcaraz) and the German Alexander Zverev (3 .º of the world) go the other way.

However, the former world No. 1 ruled himself out of the title fight in Paris last week when he lost in the first round of the Geneva tournament, where he returned to competition after undergoing hernia surgery almost two months ago. .
