Meduca will deliver more than 12 thousand boxes with storybooks for children in order to promote the habit of reading

To promote reading from preschool, the Ministry of Education (Meduca), began the delivery of 1,008,640 storybooks that will impact 21,534 classrooms in educational centers that are part of the Colmena Plan.

The “Classroom Libraries” project will benefit 396,504 students and 23,000 teachers and consists of 12,656 plastic boxes that, inside, will have 50 storybooks and in others, 100 books. The project is valued at B / .2,996,817.

This project consists of delivering classroom libraries that consist of colored plastic boxes, to identify the grades. It is a new program that will start in schools with difficult access and extreme poverty, for which reason, teachers will also be trained so that they can properly use the libraries.

What is intended is to cultivate the habit of reading from the first grades, but also to understand and analyze what they read. This educational strategy seeks to improve the quality of learning in primary school children.

Meduca carried out an international public bidding process for the acquisition of reading books, for the kindergarten through sixth grade levels. The books are fictional for informational and reference purposes, which were previously shortlisted.

The general coordinator of the Improving the Efficiency and Quality of the Education Sector (MECSE) program, Lisbeth Ramos, stated that in February 2022 the National Reading Plan will be launched, for this reason, story books will be delivered to the Colmena Plan schools. children from kindergarten to sixth grade, in order to encourage reading.
