The Venezuelan extremist groups that have requested military interventions in the nation have made a “voluntary renouncement” of their nationality, as stated by the representative to the National Assembly, Ilenia Medina during an interview with the Café en la Mañana program broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
Medina specified that these groups have violated, in all their forms, article 130 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which establishes the duty of Venezuelans to honor and defend the country, its symbols and cultural values, as well as to safeguard and protect sovereignty, nationality, territorial integrity, self-determination and the interests of the nation.
In that sense, he stated that these extreme right figures have made a “voluntary renunciation” of nationality, since during 25 years of the revolutionary process they have violated all the principles of Venezuelan laws, by ignoring the institutions of the State with the creation of the supposed “interim government” and now the most recent with the request for foreign intervention.
“We consider that it is a voluntary resignation because they have done it through their own means, no one has persecuted them, united them, (…) all these crimes lead to serious legal responsibility that cannot be ignored, by violating all the norms of the Penal Code,” he noted.
Likewise, he pointed out the need to reformulate key articles of the legal system, such as article 35, which establishes that Venezuelans by birth cannot lose their nationality. «History forces us to take that step. Somehow, it must be collected in a clearer way.”
