The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, announced that Panama received this Friday the drug Molnupiravir, (oral use) that will be used for the early management of Covid-19 and which will help reduce hospitalizations in patients infected with the virus.
He reported that the drug Paxlovid will arrive next week, which together with Molnupiravir are treatments that will reduce hospitalizations and complications of patients infected with Covid-19.
“With the arrival of these treatments, Panama becomes one of the first countries in the region to have access to these medicines; the first in Central America and the second in Latin America”, he added.
Of the antivirals evaluated we have: Remdesivir, for intravenous outpatient use, suitable for people over 12 years of age, in the first 5 days of onset of symptoms. Paxlovid (Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir) for oral use (tablets), also suitable for children over 12 years of age in the first 5 days of symptoms. Molnupiravir, also orally for those over 18 years of age in the first 5 days of symptoms.
He explained that these medicines will be distributed in the different Health regions, hospitals and health centers throughout the country, always using the biosafety protocols already previously established for patient care.
