In a fact that shook the Argentine medical and academic field, the Ministry of Health of the Nation announced that 141 applicants to the examination of Medical residences The test must be paid again, after being detected serious inconsistencies between the scores obtained and their academic background.
The decision was made after an exhaustive review of 268 cases considered suspicious, in which it was found that more than 50% had significant irregularities in the examination of Medical residences. Minister Mario Lugones, together with the Undersecretary of University Policies, Alejandro Álvarez, headed the audit process that resulted in this extent.
According to official sources, of the 141 applicants who must submit again to the exam, 133 studied abroad, which lit the alarms on the quality and transparency of certain educational institutions outside the country.
In contrast, the remaining 127 cases were validated, and mostly correspond to graduates of Argentine universities. The review focused on applicants who had obtained unusually high scores on the unique entrance exam to Medical residencesheld on July 1.

The Ministry detected that in many cases, the qualifications did not correspond to the previous academic performance or with the prestige of the universities of origin. “The health system cannot accept traps, so we decided to act,” Lugones said in an institutional video broadcast on social networks.

He tried to steal the place for an honest doctor who studied and prepared. This is not a technical error. This is fraud. And with health it is not played,” said the minister.
Evaluation Committee
The evaluation committee formed by experts analyzed each case individually, taking into account three fundamental criteria: the general average of the race, the score obtained in the exam and the institutional background of the University of origin.
In addition, international standards validated by the World Medical Education Federation were considered. This methodology sought to guarantee equity, transparency and meritocracy in access to Medical residences of the public system.
