Medical Federation: Audit the directors of hospitals that receive the resources

The FMV submitted a new letter to the Attorney General’s Office and the Ombudsman’s Office to denounce “once again” the situation of lack in hospitals. As during the first year of the covid-19 pandemic, there are not enough biosafety teams in emergencies, in addition to medicines to guarantee quality care.

The president of the Venezuelan Medical Federation (FMV), Douglas León Natera, again urged the national Executive to stop criminalizing all health personnel, especially doctors, by insisting on alleged “hospital mafias” and inspections in centers without complying with due process.

During a press conference, and with the presence of the presidents of 12 medical colleges in the country, León Natera asserted that the shortage of supplies in public hospitals is greater than 90% and, in some cases, worsens to 96% as in the case of Zulia state.

“That it evaluate its hospital directors, audit the directors who are the ones who receive resources and the few supplies that arrive, if they arrive, not the doctors who do their best to provide care to patients,” said the president. of the FMV.

In addition, he exhorted the entire medical profession “not to fall into the trap, the double discourse of the Government” about the presence of supplies and medicines in health centers.

For this reason, they recommend that health workers carry out visual inspections, even with the presence of officials from the Prosecutor’s Office, or inspection with patients and their families to record the lack of supplies in the guard books.

Another recommendation is that, at the time of treating a patient and there is no certain medicine or supply in any of the services, that failure be recorded in the medical history.

This Tuesday 21, the Medical Federation also delivered a new letter to the Attorney General’s Office and the Ombudsman’s Office to denounce “once again” the situation of lack in hospitals. He said that, as during the first year of the covid-19 pandemic, there are not enough emergency biosafety teams, in addition to medicines to guarantee quality care.

Ramón Rubio, president of the Aragua College of Physicians, also rejected “wanting to criminalize and prosecute doctors. We tell the President that they are deceiving him, patients in 95% of cases must buy their supplies.

He considered that the administration of Nicolás Maduro must be honest to make an effective endowment. “We are going to speak clearly to the people, to tell them the truth that there is no daily investment in supplies (…) They barely have 3 or 4% of GDP to invest in health care when in other countries 10 or 12% are invested.”
