Santo Domingo. – The proposal of the vice president of the Dominican Society of Medical Oncology, Dr. Miguel Monanci, on the creation of a federation that groups medical societies with the same theme found echo in the Dominican Medical College (CMD).
The president of the National Council of Specialized Societies of the CMD, Dr. Luis Farington, considers that it would be a good initiative.
It favors the idea as long as specialized societies debate the issue and reach a consensus.

In Monanci’s proposal, the oncologist argues that a federation would harmonize and coordinate scientific activities, as congress does, in such a way that some support the work of others.
He pointed out that, in the case of oncology, there are several societies that could, under the umbrella of a federation, hold an annual joint congress.
He indicated that his proposal includes that each society take turns holding a congress, after holding the one held under the federation scheme.
He stated that with his proposal the pharmaceutical industry and health brands would be less forced into the commercial supports of the events.
Medical societies are endorsed by the Dominican Medical College under mandate of law.
Some 57 medical societies are endorsed by the medical union, but others operate as associations, under commercial names or do not have endorsement from the CMD.
