Medical bodies of nine health institutions issued a statement in which they question that the Ministry of Health be the one in charge of taking the evaluation for admission to Rural and Marginal Urban Health Service (SERUMS), which will take place this Sunday.
They have therefore requested that the Minister of Health, César Vásquez, be immediately removed from office.
The document is signed by the medical staff of the Dos de Mayo National Hospital, the San Bartolomé National Mother and Child Teaching Hospital, the National Maternal and Perinatal Institute, the Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital, the Lima Este Vitarte Hospital, the Sergio Bernales National Hospital, the National Institute of Child Health – Breña, the Santa Rosa Hospital and the Lima City Network.
“We strongly disagree with these regulatory documents, which do not guarantee transparent evaluation and the quality standards required for the practice of medicine,” the statement said.
They also questioned the president of the Peruvian Medical Federation, Ivette Mendoza González, and claimed that they had not been summoned to a General Assembly “to make decisions on this issue that is not on our digital platform.”
THEY DENY THE MINSA
The Peruvian Medical Federation issued a statement in which it contradicted the Ministry of Health, which announced the day before that the FMP would participate as an observer of the evaluation.
In light of this, medical bodies point out that the Ministry of Health should not undertake “parallel evaluations.”
“The national medical exam should be the only evaluation instrument carried out by the competent academic institutions, and not parallel evaluations carried out by the Ministry of Health,” the statement said.
They also requested that a National Assembly be convened “in order to provide explanations regarding the position adopted by Dr. Ivette Mendoza in favor of the Minister of Health, subject to the decision of the union members.”
Finally, the medical bodies demand that the head of the Ministry of Health, César Vásquez, be removed from office.
“Demand the inclusion of the union platform, the immediate change of the health minister due to the constant complaints about the lack of medicines and poor management demonstrated,” it reads.
