The Minister of Education (MEC), Camilo Santana, said this Sunday (10) that he is considering reusing the National High School Examination (Enem) as a certification of high school completion for students over 18 years of age. The change should come into effect in the 2025 Enem.
According to the minister, the recommendation was made to the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), the body responsible for administering the exam. Certification through the exam ceased to be valid in 2016.
“The idea is to enable this young person to also have the opportunity for the Enem test to certify him. This gives more scope for access to this test and for him to be able to take the test and enter university”, he stated, adding that the National Exam for Certification of Skills for Young People and Adults (Encceja) must be maintained.
Camilo Santana also stated that another possibility under analysis is to converge Enem with the Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb), used by Inep to measure the performance of high school students.
“Sometimes, third-year high school students prioritize the Enem over the Saeb test. We are studying the possibility of the Enem test for third-year high school students to be used for the Saeb test. Inep will have until next year’s registration period to complete this recommendation. This is a step that the Ministry of Education wants to provide more efficiency and converge the Saeb test with the Enem test in 2025”, he stated.
