The Union of Meat Vendors (UVC) made a request to the Ministry of Economy and Finance to exempt VAT on cutsreported El Pais and confirmed The Observer in dialogue with its president, Alfonso Fontenla. It was also requested a stable price list in a period of between 30 and 45 days.
“The refrigerators have to assure the government a stable price to be able to give some breathing space to the internal marketand in that it is”, explained the leader.
The request was not regarding any cut of meat in particular, because the union is waiting for an offer from the refrigerators. “There must be enough stock to be able to make an important promotion with one or a few cuts and that it can reach everyone”, explained Fontenla. He clarified that one option is strip roast, although it has not yet been defined.
Regarding the reason for the request, he explained that it was due to the 25% increase in the prices of cuts of meat in the last two months, which hurt sales. “As expected, there was a retraction of purchases by the consumer, seeing the successive rises in the price of meat,” he declared.
