A few days before the end of 2024, the exports dominican of beef to others countries are around 15 million dollars, while egg exports totaled 10 million dollars, for a total of 25 million dollars in foreign currency generated through these two items, reported the president of the Dominican Association of Milk Producers (Aproveche ), Eric Rivero.
The meat exports exceed in 127.5% those of last year which, according to data from the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), were 6.5 million dollars in 2023.
This represents an important advance of the sector rancher at the entrance to this market, after more than two years since the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the United States department (FSIS) recognized the equivalence of meat processing systems in the Dominican Republic.
Local meat producers lasted almost 40 years without being able to access this market.
So far, only two companies dominican export beef to the North American giant, confirmed the general director of Livestock, Abel Madera, to Free Diary.
Other destinations interested
However, the country has other countries interested in the Dominican product, as is the case of El Salvador, Guatemala and Guyana.
“Guatemala is already importing Dominican meat; (in the case of) El Salvador, it already has the necessary permits, everything is ready and it will arrive in the next few days, meat there; Guyana also has the authorizations and permits ready to import, and join the United States in that great effort to generate resources important through the exports“he added.
Currently, three companies are authorized to send meat to Guatemala, and five to sell to El Salvador, according to Madera, who indicated that there are companies that are still preparing for the export of meat to Guyana, which would begin in 2025.
Egg export to Cuba
Rivero also highlighted as an achievement for the sector poultry Dominican Republic the export of 105 million eggs to Cuba, the country’s main buyer of this protein so far.
These sales have generated more than 10 million dollars in foreign exchange in this year, through 10 companies authorized.
