The provincial government of Havana announced new measures to face “a situation created by the lack of diesel supply to private carriers or owners of resources in this sector,” reported this Sunday the state newspaper Granma.
According to the aforementioned media, in the capital the fuel figures assigned to vital activities will be readjusted, so that the sale of diesel can be carried out in four service centers located to the east, west, center and south of the city.
These facilities will be enabled at dawn to provide services to the population in the morning.
On the other hand, the sale of fuel will be evaluated according to the type of vehicle, with limits of liters established for each category, although the quotas assigned to each client according to their means of transport are not specified.
Havana and other cities in the country have been facing continuous problems due to fuel shortages for months, which has caused days with long lines at gas stations.
In March 2022, for example, the Cuba-Petróleo company clarified that the shortage of fuel at the pumps in the cities was caused by the lack of tanker trucks in the province of Matanzas. Then in October reported of a new crisis due to “logistical operational difficulties” and “a higher than usual demand”.
The problems in the supply of fuels are added to others such as the shortage of food and medicine, high inflation and the instability of the electrical system, aggravated by the tense economic crisis that the island is going through, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, mismanagement and tightening of US sanctions.
