MDHC launches actions for memory against dictatorial periods in Brazil

The Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC) will carry out, until April 2nd, a series of initiatives for the preservation of memory, truth, the struggle for democracy and social justice. “Recent movements in our history, like the last six years, acted contrary to social interest. That’s also why we are promoting these agendas that retake the leading role in our fight for democracy”, said, in a note, the special advisor of the MDHC, Nilmário Miranda, referring to the period.

Under the management of Nilmário, the Special Advice for the Defense of Democracy, Memory and Truth houses the Amnesty Commission, whose internal regulations were published on March 23, and the Special Commission on Political Deaths and Disappearances, which will be reestablished through a presidential decree expected to be published in the coming days.

The schedule involves the launch of the stamp in reference to the Never Again Week, released this Friday (24). On March 31, 1964, the country suffered a military coup that caused human rights violations caused by the Brazilian State.

This Monday (27th), Nilmário Miranda will participate in an act on the Honestino Guimarães bridge, in Brasília, in a repair of memory through transitional justice: “I praise Costa e Silva, a representative of the military dictatorship, and enter a tribute to a representative of the resistance”. On Tuesday (28), the MDHC receives an audience with more than 150 relatives of dead and missing people, with the presence of Minister Silvio Almeida.

On Wednesday (29), it will be the moment for political amnesties to participate in a hearing. On March 30, the Amnesty Commission will hold the first session of the collegiate after years of mischaracterization of the use of the State commission that fights for the historical reparation of those persecuted by the military dictatorship.

The president of the Amnesty Commission, Eneá de Stuts e Almeida, and Nilmário Miranda will participate in the seminar “For an expanded agenda of Memory, Truth, Justice and Reparation”, organized by the Coalition Brazil for Memory, Truth, Justice and Reparation of Democracy. The event will take place from 3:30 pm, in the Chamber of Deputies (Freitas Nobre Auditorium), in Brasília.

To close the actions in repudiation of authoritarianism and extremism, Minister Silvio Almeida will participate in the Walk of Silence, in São Paulo, starting at 4 pm. Entitled 3rd Walk of Silence, the act will take place on April 2, in Ibirapuera Park and surroundings, being organized by the Voices of Silence Movement with the aim of promoting a silent walk in memory of victims of state violence.

On the same day, representatives of the ministry will visit the Center for Anthropology and Forensic Archeology of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), where work is carried out to identify the bone remains removed from the clandestine grave of Perus – a cemetery on the outskirts of São Paulo where they were buried. political disappeared victims of the military dictatorship.
