Mayor's Office raises rigid quarantine and Government asks to reduce circulation

This Wednesday Santa Cruz once again exceeded the daily records of contagions. 6,286 new cases were reported and the index de positivity reached 51 percent, which is the highest so far in the coronavirus pandemic.

This explosion of cases made the authorities of Santa Cruz de la Sierra analyze once again dictating a rigid quarantine, to stop the rate of infections.

While the national government considers that it is not the time to repeat this measure, which is why it proposes as a containment alternative, further reduce the circulation hours and the capacity in the rooms.

For its part, the Santa Cruz Government today convened a meeting of the Departmental Emergency Operations Committee (COED), from where recommendations will be issued so that the municipalities can contain this fourth wave.

The departmental secretary of Health, Fernando Pacheco, announced that, if the escalation of infections continues, one should think about taking extreme measures. “We will be very responsible in the recommendations and the truth is that the daily numbers of infections do not accompany the sacrifice of the authorities. The The population is with a certain degree of irresponsibility, which may lead us to opt for some type of quarantine, ”said Pacheco.
The municipal secretary of Health, Roberto Vargas, considers that the rigid quarantine of five or seven days is an alternative to curb the transmissibility of the virus. “We will see the possibility of a rigid quarantine. We raised it on Monday. We will see what the response of the departmental authorities will be to overcome this situation, the concern is that the cases continue to rise, “he said.

He added that this measure is necessary, considering the number of casualties among health personnel, a situation that has forced close services in hospitals and health centers.
The measure is supported by the health sector. “We demand the
encapsulation, a minimum of seven days, because otherwise the infection rate will not drop and the hospitals will continue to be saturated, ”said the leader of health workers, Roberth Hurtado.

The president of the Departmental Medical College, Wilfredo Anzoátegui, indicated that they also support a rigid quarantine and He proposes that it be 7 to 10 days. “The contagion is so exponential that the curve is vertical. A rigid quarantine would be ideal, ”he insisted.

However, the national government does not support it. The national chief of Epidemiology, Freddy Armijo, indicated that it is not the time to declare this extreme measure because despite “the number of cases ”, deaths are still low, since the fatality dropped from 0.9 to 0.7 in the last wave and the trend is for it to continue to decline due to vaccination.
“To take this extreme measure, the number of deaths must be analyzed. In addition, you have to see the consequences, see if the population complies with the measure at a time when it is reactivating its economy, “said Armijo.

As an alternative, he proposed reducing the hours of circulation or restricting more the capacity of some places. “Perhaps the reduction of hours can be a measure that helps,” he insisted.
Traders are also strongly opposed to the measure. The leader Rodolfo Ochoa said that they reject the rigid quarantine and propose that more vaccination points be enabled.
“The measures must be planned and agreed with all sectors to get out of these health problems and agglomerations,” he remarked.

Brigades resume
Since yesterday, the national government has sent brigades from house to house to detect cases of Covid-19, starting in the Santa Rosita neighborhood.

The national director of Epidemiology said they assigned 187 doctors to start the brigades, but they hope to reach 300 professionals in the coming days to strengthen the diagnosiso and care in health centers. “Doctors will stay as long as necessary. It will be until we have results ”, he assured.

During the day, the capital’s mayor’s office and the national government agreed to enable four diagnostic and vaccination points in the sub-mayors of the Argentine Station, Villa Primero de Mayo, Plan Tres Mil and Paurito, which are part of the eastern health network. In this area there is a high rate of infections and only 40% of its population is covered with the vaccine.

The Government announced that from today another two vaccination centers: Pro Salud El Carmen, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; and Unifranz, from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Fexpocruz will be reinforced to serve up to 6,000 people per day.

More diseases
Armijo stressed that Santa Cruz is at the time of having outbreaks of vector-borne diseases, such as dengue and Zika.
In the municipal report, it states that between December 17e of 2021 and on January 4 of this year, 99 cases of influenza and 1,576 suspects were registered.
