After announcing the suspension of mobilization expenses for mayors and representatives, Comptroller Gerardo Solís stated that they are creating a procedures manual to train these officials and that they responsibly spend the budget that will be allocated for what will now be known as ” incidental expenses”.
“There are no mobilization expenses, the funds are in the state budget, they have to be used for something else, they can be used for something else, but they have to be used correctly,” he said.
Solís stated that the mayors and representatives will receive between 500 and 1,200 dollars in unforeseen monthly expenses, as long as they justify it. These officials must prepare accountability reports based on the standards of the National Authority for Transparency and Access to Information (ANTAI).
“If in a month they justify it because they need it (they can use it). They cannot use the funds if they do not render accounts to us,” he specified, revealing that he hopes to meet with the mayors and representatives next week and start the training.
“I am not an easy thing to eat for mayors and representatives, if you can understand the weight that the Comptroller has when it does its inspection well and it does not matter that nobody recognizes it, because this is a very poorly recognized position, and it is one of the most ungrateful positions because no one recognizes you and no one thanks you, we are not asking for it, we are working, doing what we have to do,” said the comptroller.
