Mayors activate contingency plans to deal with blackout emergencies

Among the plans they have deployed is increased surveillance on road corridors, due to the lack of traffic lights, as well as power plants for buildings that require them for their water pumps, as well as the transfer of Civil Protection to transport people who require medical attention to health centers.


Several mayors activated contingency plans this Friday, August 30, after the country suffered a major blackout that lasted more than nine hours in different states.

The mayor of Chacao, Gustavo Duque, said that they have a contingency plan, which in principle covers all the road corridors of the municipality, especially the busiest traffic lights. “We hope that these repairs are quick and we can have electric service as soon as possible,” he told Union Radio.

“I want to give a message to our neighbors, especially those who have a family member who depends on oxygen concentrators, who have vital situations that depend on electricity, such as battery concentrators that could be running out, if any of our neighbors requires support, We are transferring them to the Chacao Health headquarters if necessary.“, explained the mayor of Chacao.

The Mayor’s Office reported that if the failure continued after 2:00 p.m. they would put in power generators with power strips so that residents could charge cell phones or temporarily connect some electrical equipment at the following points:

*The Square of the Palos Grandes
*Bolivar Square
*Bolívar Urbanization (corner of the Metropolitan Center)
*La Cruz Sector (police module)
*El Pedregal (outside the Juan de Dios Guanche School)

The mayor of the Los Salias municipality, Miranda state, Josy Fernández, reported that they are dedicated to serving the outpatient clinics and the neighbors who require oxygen with power plants. “For our medical centers we have the necessary ones,” he said in an interview with Union RadioThe official said that security agencies remain on the streets of the jurisdiction.

The Baruta Mayor’s Office also activated a preventive road care operation in high traffic areas, under the coordination of Civil Protection and the municipal police. “When there is this type of emergency, a plan is developed in the areas where the traffic lights are to avoid road accidents and guarantee mobility,” said Mayor Darwin González to Union Radio.
