“I made the mistake because I am not up to date with the rules of the Morena party and it turns out that if she is elected, she will take her place as leader until October 1 and there is no legal problem for her to finish,” he explained this Friday at his morning press conference.
Next Sunday, Morena will hold its VII Extraordinary National Congress, in which the party presidency, the general secretary and other secretariats will be renewed, at the World Trade Center, where the party will also update its statutes and extend the term of the members of Congress and the National Council for two more years until October 1, 2027.
To lead the presidency of Morena, the Secretary of the Interior, who is also the daughter of the former secretary of the party Bertha Luján, has been mentioned.
Luisa María Alcalde was appointed Secretary of the Interior in June 2023, when Adán Augusto López Hernández left office in search of competing for Morena’s presidential nomination.
The president said he is very grateful to Luisa María Alcalde Luján for what she has contributed to his government, first as Secretary of Labor and now as head of the Interior Ministry.
“I think highly of her, I am very grateful to her, and of course, if she has no legal problems and in the event that I choose her as a leader or for any position in Morena, she told me that she would formally enter on October 1st, meaning that she will stay until the end of the government,” he said.
One of the president’s sons, Andrés Manuel López Beltrán, has also been mentioned as seeking a position in the party he held in 2014.
