The mayor of Surco, Carlos Bruce Montes de Oca, resigned from Avanza País, the party with which he won the municipal seat of that district in the 2022 elections.
The mayor informed the political group that his resignation is irrevocable and is due to strictly personal reasons.
In a letter, Bruce expressed his gratitude for the consideration he received during his time in that party.
Businessman, politician, former congressman and former Minister of Housing in the governments of Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and Alejandro Toledo, the Surco authority is one of those rumored to run for mayor of Lima in the elections to be held in 2026.
If he intends to confirm his candidacy, he will have to join another group until October 7, when the deadline established by the National Elections Board (JNE) expires.
