The mayor of Pataz, Aldo Carlos Mariños, raised his voice against the Minister of the Interior, Juan José Santiváñez, demanding his resignation due to the worsening of insecurity in the La Libertad region. According to the mayor, the three-month period that Santiváñez promised to improve security indicators has passed without visible results, leaving citizens in a critical situation.
“I would like the Minister of the Interior to keep his word. He said that, if the security indicators did not change in three months, he was going to resign. “Those three months have already passed and the issue of insecurity has worsened, therefore, I should take a step aside,” expressed Mariños for Canal N.
Then he continued with: “he must resign. “We need a person with love for Peru and who sees the mechanism of how he meets with the intelligence service to dismantle all the gangs that exist in the La Libertad region.”
The mayor highlighted that the lack of confidence in the National Police is also an urgent problem. Recent statements indicate that some officers are linked to criminal gangs, which generates fear among citizens, who are discouraged from reporting crimes. Mariños called to strengthen joint work with the intelligence service to dismantle these organizations and return tranquility to the region.
In addition, he questioned the results of the state of emergency decreed in Trujillo, Virú and Pataz, stating that the measures adopted have not managed to stop the wave of crime that is plaguing La Libertad.
