After completing the first ‘National Meeting of Tourist Municipalities of the Country’, held in the Cusco Region, the mayor of Machu Picchu, Darwin Baca, was elected as president of the ‘National Association of Tourist Municipalities of Peru’ and will assume as the first representative at the national level during his tenure.
The mayor of Machu Picchu, will have the task of articulating the strengthening and economic reactivation of local governments who live from tourism, with a strategy that seeks to revitalize this important sector that was hit during the pandemic.
The first steering committee will be made up of the mayors of Machu Picchu (president), province of Tumbes (vice president), province of Paracas (secretary) and the provinces of Ilo, Puno, Madre de Dios and the district of Lunahuaná.
The man from Cusco assured that the objective of the members of the steering committee, in principle it will be to achieve that they are recognized as a consultative entity with representation before the Executive and Legislative powers.
