Mayor of La Paz will defend himself in freedom in the 'Bajo Llojeta' case

From complainant to accused. The mayor of the municipality of La Paz, Iván Arias Durán, faces a new criminal investigation for the Bajo Llojeta mazamorra that affected dozens of homes and where a girl lost her life. Once again, the municipal authority is at risk of being sent to jail.

“We have gone from witness to accused, that is, are we victims going to end up being perpetrators?” Arias questioned about the legal situation he faces after 12 days of the tragedy of the residents of that area of ​​La Paz.

With the avalanche of mud, stones and debris that flooded the houses of Bajo Llojeta, on the night of Saturday, November 23 and took the life of a girl, a new criminal investigation has been launched against the mayor of La Paz, who since he arrived at the Mayor’s Office , three years and seven months ago, faces some 40 complaints and criminal investigations, including for not attending a barbecue, according to the count of the Director of Governance of the La Paz Mayor’s Office, Gonzalo Barrientos.

“Mayor Iván Arias is going to reach 40 processes. A year ago they also wanted to arrest him for not attending two barbecues. The accusations reached that extreme and now when Mayor Iván Arias files a lawsuit against that company that carried out illegal earthworks and it happens that he is now being cited as a suspect,” Barrientos said.
