The Mayor’s Office of La Paz is considering initiating a process against the previous management of Luis Revilla for the alleged lack of updating of the urban cleaning rate in past years as established by law and whose increase generates protests.

The councilor of the ruling party Somos Pueblo and president of the Municipal Council, Jorge Dulón, pointed out that the recent pressure measures respond to political ends.

The Mayor’s Office indicated on Monday that an increase in the rate was set due to the update of the Housing Development Unit (UFV) and in compliance with Law 2434.

Since that announcement, neighborhood councils and opposition councilors (MAS) rejected the measure and denounced this 38% increase in the garbage collection service.

Asked about the possibility of initiating a process against the previous management for not applying the rate update, Dulón explained that this measure is analyzed together with the Executive in charge of Iván Arias based on audits.

“It will be evaluated. It is necessary to identify the non-compliance with the national standard that has been made since the previous steps. All municipal governments have to comply with the norm and it seems strange to me that this norm has not been complied with for more than 10 years because it is a detriment, ”he indicated in an interview on radio Compañera.

The municipal authority pointed out that this measure was not applied unilaterally. “This law had not been applied for a long time by the past administration, that happened. We have made the technical consultations of the case and they have answered us that they can initiate a process for not complying with the law, ”said the legislator to radio Compañera.

Dulón argued that the municipality is carrying out the socialization of this law with different sectors and is open to dialogue, but warned that the issue has become politicized. “There is a decision that intends to digitize this politically,” he concluded.

Fejuve calls for a march and the strike is reinforced

This Thursday the Federation of Neighborhood Boards (Fejuve) at the head of Justino Apaza called for a march for Friday “in rejection of the 84% increase in the urban cleaning rate,” the call indicates.

The circular, which summons the neighbors to a mobilization that will start from the Bolivian Brewery, points out that the mayor’s measure is an “attack against the economy.”

Along the same lines, this Wednesday morning people with disabilities announced that they will join the hunger strike initiated by councilors from the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) on Tuesday afternoon.

In the midst of the protest, shouts of “budget for education” could be heard.

“The MAS councilors have started the strike, without having sat down to talk, to exhaust all the stages. By chance, there are other mobilizations that have been installed, one of the Fejuves is mobilizing, another peripheral mobilization of the parents’ meeting”, replied Dulón in this regard.
