The mayoress of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, held a meeting this Sunday with representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco, for its acronym in English) in Latin America.
Through her account on the social network Twitter, the mayoress of Caracas explained that at the meeting – held at the Mayor’s office-, interest was expressed in belonging to the Creative Cities Network program.
“Excellent meeting this Sunday at the headquarters of the @alcaldiaDCcs with representatives of Unesco in Latin America, in which we expressed our interest in being part of the Creative Cities Network of this international organization”, wrote the mayoress on the social network.
During the meeting, Meléndez stressed that Caracas has potential that could make her part of this program.
“We believe that we have great possibilities to be on this important list of cities, and we discussed it with our visitors, together with whom we toured the spaces of the Caracas Municipal Council,” he stressed.
The UNESCO Creative Cities Network was created in 2004 to promote cooperation towards and between cities that identify creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development.
According to the UNESCO pagethe 180 cities that currently make up the Network work together towards a common objective: to position creativity and the cultural industries at the center of their local development plan and to actively cooperate internationally on the matter.
