Regarding the disapproval of the Sama District Council to facilitate the functions of the municipality of the Boca del Río population center, which could mean that it disappears and is reduced to a municipal agency; the mayor of the resort Juan Mamani Huayna indicated that the result of the session was already presumed.

“We already suspected that this was going to happen. They want the municipality of Boca del Río to disappear. The law says that populated centers that are in operation cannot be deactivated. Boca del Río is in operation, so the argument of the Sama council is not valid,” he said.
Rejects Sama’s arguments
He stressed that the councilors’ allegations are not true since they say that they do not report the income and expenses of Boca del Río to Sama. “I categorically reject this because from the first day of my administration I had to report every month and I have proven this with documents,” he said.

He announced that next week he will request the suspension of the mayor of Sama and with regards to the adjustment process, they have already sent a document to the provincial municipality of Tacna requesting the adjustment ex officio.
It claims to have more than 1,000 inhabitants
He acknowledged that at the beginning there were only 72 residents with ID from Boca del Río but that now there are more than 1,000. The adaptation process required according to the laws given since 2005 left the municipalities of the populated centers of Leguía, La Natividad and Francisco Bolognesi deactivated. Currently, their administration is entirely in charge of the provincial municipality of Tacna and the positions of mayor and councilors in these sectors have disappeared.
