Mayor of Barbosa (Boyacá) launches SOS in the face of crisis in transversal Carare

The president assures that this is a historic crisis that affects the economy of the entire country.

The Carare Transversal has suffered a strong impact due to the mass removal that has left the road completely cut off. The mayor Marco Alirio Cortés de Barbosa has requested support from the governor of Santander, Juvenal Díaz, and Carlos Amaya from Boyacá.

The president assures that the road disappeared and not only represents a crisis for Santander and Boyacá but for the entire country, because agricultural and cement products transit there from Boyacá towards La Costa and various parts of the country: “We have not reacted to the magnitude of the situation,” he said.

On the other hand, he pointed out that they have already met in the area with some engineers who have determined that this historical removal could have been generated by the on exploitation of hundreds of coal sales in the eastern mountain range, but so far the information has not been corroborated by technical studies.

In this way they request support from National Government, departmental governments and immediate strategies due to the seriousness of the situation.

It is also important to inform that the Santander Chamber of Commerce has spoken in the head of its president Juan Carlos Rincón and the Hotel and Tourism Association (Cotelco), requesting support from the National Government for the economic losses due to the decrease in tourism.

On the other hand, La FM was in contact with the Chamber of Commerce of Tunja, an entity that has influence in the affected Boyacá municipalities, but he assured that until now they have not handled any reports of the situation and the impacts it has at the moment.
