During the day tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, July 15, the elections will be held to form the new directive of the Chilean Association of Municipalities, currently chaired by the mayor of Huechuraba, Carlos Cuadrado.
According to information from Clinicthe instance of the group -which currently brings together 345 municipalities- will take place in the Viña del Mar commune.
By calling a General Assembly and in proportion to the number of mayors obtained by each political party in the last municipal elections, the associated mayors will first elect the union’s executive committee, which will subsequently define the composition of the board of directors, which, in addition of the president, is made up of ten other members.
In this sense, it is commented that the Christian Democracy is the party that runs with the greatest advantage to preside over the association. This, since there are currently 55 communes led by the community.
According to Democratic Socialist sources commented to Clinicpointed out that there is a prior political agreement for the mayor of Peñalolén, Carolina Leitao, to be chosen to lead the Chilean Association of Municipalities.
The sources that participated in the elaboration of the pact, maintained that the negotiations began in May, being fine-tuned during the last weeks by the president of the DC and mayor of La Granja, Felipe Delpin; the vice-president of the PS, Eduardo Bermúdez; the vice president of the PPD and mayor of Lo Prado, Maximiliano Ríos; and the member of the National Executive Committee of the PR, Miguel Moreno.
On the other hand, they commented on off that one of the conditions to adhere to said pact is that whoever leads the agreement must be in favor of the Approval in the exit plebiscite set for next September 4.
After the different unchecking within the DC, one of the people who aligned with the proposal for a new Constitution issued from the Constitutional Convention is the mayor of Peñalolén.
This, after Leitao supported -in mid-June- a Third that “until now my tendency is to approve, but the text is still a draft, it has flaws, inconsistencies, but I have more reasons to approve”
Last week, Leitao signed a declaration signed by 24 mayors and 30 councilors of the Christian Democracy in favor of Approval. This in hours before the National Board of the community endorsed the proposal of the constituent body with 63% of the votes of its members.
In that sense, the same participating sources of the ACHM indicated that the negotiations are not settled and will continue during the day this Wednesday, where it is not ruled out that the Communist Party joins.
