Mayor Leitao is elected new president of the Chilean Association of Municipalities

During this Friday, the second day of the General Assembly of Municipalities of the Chilean Association of Municipalities (AChM) was held, an instance where mayors voted to elect the new board that will serve for the next four years. In that sense, the mayor of Peñalolén, Carolina Leitao, rose as the new president.

It should be noted that the group, which includes 321 municipalities throughout the country, chose a woman for the first time in its history to preside over the association. Before this, 18 were the presidents since its creation.

It should be noted that 214 mayors voted for the four competing lists, and 1,233 votes were cast. The majority list obtained 56% of the preferences, which caused 8 of 13 members to enter the directory.

Meanwhile, Mayor Leitao, from the Christian Democrats, obtained 121 votes, which means that more than 57% of the mayors voted for her. It should be remembered that Leitao has been mayor of the Peñalolén commune since 2012.

After the news, the mayor stated that “I thank the mayors who today elected me as the first female president of the Chilean Association of Municipalities. In uncertain times, the municipalities provide certainty, closeness and security. We will continue to work transversally on the ground day”.
