The mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler, announced a package of measures -in the medium term- to achieve the “urban transformation” of the Meiggs neighborhood. This is an intervention phase that began 25 days ago and that managed to clear the streets occupied by illegal street vendors.
After a meeting with merchants, neighbors and the Corporation for the Development of Santiago (Cordesan), Hassler stated that “this process of change, investment and recovery of public space will materialize thanks to a public-private partnership.
“The urban interventions of the sector have to do with having more lighting in the sector, with the beautification of the space, with the implementation of bicycle racks, installation of kiosks, since the idea is to project a neighborhood that, based on innovation, can be a commercial neighborhood that convenes citizens and they can come and buy in a safe and friendly way,” he said.
As a result of this, the different merchants extended their gratitude to the authority, since they share Hassler’s vision regarding a safe and orderly commercial neighborhood.
