Mayor Galán files a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor's Office after riots in Bogotá

The mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán, presented before the Attorney General’s Office a criminal complaint against those responsible for the public order attacks that recently occurred in the country’s capital. The legal action corresponds to the crimes of terrorism, riot, violence against public servants, conspiracy to commit a crime, impact on the transportation system, among others.

Through X’s account, the local president pointed out that although the city respects the right to protest, “We do not accept nor will we allow acts of violence and, much less, coordinated and premeditated attacks by shock militias that seek to affect it, generate fear in citizens and attack public forces.”

Galán emphasized that The Prosecutor’s Office is being asked to investigate the perpetrators of these events as soon as possible. “What happened in Bogotá was not a peaceful protest, it was a planned, coordinated, and very well organized action,” Indian.

The mayor added that “Given the events recorded this week, on five occasions we ordered the public force to intervene. In four of them, before the intervention materialized, the subjects dispersed. In the fifth, yesterday in the vicinity of the United States embassy, ​​the Police intervention did materialize to restore public order and protect the embassy.”

Rejection of riots

After the riots near the United States Embassy in Bogotá, President Gustavo Petro spoke out in rejection of these events, in which some police officers from the Dialogue and Maintenance of Order Unit (UNDMO) were injured with arrows.

“I ordered maximum care with the US embassy in Bogotá. It is bad that after reaching an agreement with the ‘People’s Congress’ to lift the blockades, a more radical group has attacked the Police guarding the embassy with several young people injured with arrows,” said the head of state in a publication on his X account.

He then stated: “The embassy was taken care of as promised. Colombia complies with international treaties.”
