Mayor Fábrega’s appeal is rejected, mandate revocation initiative is still standing

The appeal presented by the legal team of the mayor of the Capital, José Luis Fábrega, to annul the initiative to revoke the mandate, established in Resolution number 01-DROEPC/DJ-2022, was rejected by the National Directorate of Electoral Organization.

The revocation initiative was presented on March 3, by the lawyer Roberto Ruíz Díaz.

On March 14, lawyer Carlos Carrillo filed an appeal in which he argued that the Electoral Court (TE) violated Fábrega’s fundamental guarantees, since article 500 of the Electoral Code points out that no authority can deal with more than one request for the revocation of a mandate by popular initiative at the same time, and the TE is already processing a request in this regard presented by Raúl Ricardo Rodríguez.

Indeed, the regional director of the Central Panama TE, Nilza Delgado, admitted the request to revoke the mandate against Mayor Fábrega, made on February 22 by lawyer Roberto Ruiz Díaz.

However; The National Directorate of Electoral Organization decided to confirm Resolution number 01-DROEPC/DJ-2022 in all its parts and return the appeal to the Regional Directorate of Electoral Organization of Central Panama, so that it can continue with the corresponding procedures.
