The defense of the mayor of El Alto, Eva Copa, presented a complaint for political violence against the Vice Minister of Coordination and Government Management, Gustavo Torricowho during a public act called her “crazy”.
The jurist described the deputy minister as a person sexist and has no respect for women. He also asked that he be removed from his position while the process is carried out.
“Unfortunately, these statements by the Vice Minister of Coordination with Social Movements, they denigrate the image of the woman from El Alto. He has to see that he is not only referring to Eva Copa, he is referring to all the women of El Alto, because I am his representative. I don’t know another mayor other than me. My lawyer has already gone to file the complaint, we hope that the authorities act quickly and we can leave a precedent so that these things do not happen again“Copa said when asked about the subject after the Alteñidad Assembly.
A representative of the Alteños warned: “We are not going to rest until we see this man out of office. We support our mayor who has won with 68% of the votes. To those of the radical wing of the MAS we say: think before you say a word, we are not going to allow them to denigrate us, we are courageous revolutionaries and they come to call us crazy…”
Political violence, that is the accusation presented by the mayor of El AltoEva Copa, through her lawyer, Frank Campero, against the Deputy Minister of Government Coordination, Gustavo Torrico, after he launched insults at her on Monday night.
“Pitifully has proceeded to attack her politically In his capacity as mayor and because of the insults he has made, we are making him call the Prosecutor’s Office to present his corresponding defenses and justify why there is such political violence against a woman being as an authority in management”, explained the lawyer.
On Monday night, at the opening of a political training seminar, Torrico criticized the militants’ lack of partisan commitment when it came to accepting the decisions of the MAS national leadership and said that if there was a partisan commitment, Eva Copa would not be mayor, to which he gave the adjective “crazy”.
This Tuesday at the Assembly facilities, Torrico was intercepted by the media and questioned him about his claims. The government authority chose to criticize the work of the media and fled from the questions.
The deputy minister said that This is how he refers to people, “crazy, crazy, skinny, fat” and denied that he had disrespected to Eva Copa, whom he claimed to be his friend. For Torrico, the media distorted his statements, which he made at an internal MAS event, but which were replicated by the media and social networks.
Campero suggested that the same Executive Body takes measures regarding these statements that were amplified in the media. When Torrico made his statements, at his side were authorities from the Executive, such as the Vice Minister of Health, Alejandra Hidalgo and the councilor and former minister, Wilma Alanoca, as well as the Vice President of the MAS, Gerardo García, and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Freddy Mamani.
“Mr. Gustavo Torrico is a deputy minister who belongs to a management of the Executive of the president, (Luis) Arce Catacora and the president will take the necessary measures”, slipped the lawyer.
Political opponents also took advantage of the circumstance to ask for Torrico’s resignation for launching sexist and misogynist speeches. The deputy, Alejandro Reyes (CC) said that this type of speech should be sanctioned with immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution.
In 2020 Eva Copa was a candidate for the MAS, but by decision of the party leadership she was displaced and replaced with Zacarías Maquera. Copa resigned from the MAS and ran for Jallalla La Paz and won the mayor’s office, so the MAS was relegated and it is something they continue to regret.
