Mayor Callero angry at “politicking.” “It’s like inviting you to eat a barbecue at your house”

Not only that, but “they sent us an invitation. It’s like inviting you to eat a barbecue at your house without you knowing it,” the mayor of the Municipality of Nueva Palmira, Agustín Callero (National Party), told EL ECO.

Agustín Callero put on the table of the municipal session “something I don’t like”, in reference to the controversial beach volleyball court. “This group” called ‘Palmira Revive’ “makes itself of a public space without us knowing anything. The Municipality was left out”, despite the fact that “we are always helping, they are open to collaborating. And we are only told something when we are invited to the inauguration”, and that for the mayor and the councilors “has no explanation”.

Callero argued that “in October I asked the Works Department for sand to put the volleyball courts in condition for the summer, something they never sent, and now, a week ago, they reported that they were sending a truck with sand, I thought it was that I ordered it and since the summer had already passed I had it unloaded in the yard to use it to repair the Lobo square, and they told me later that it was for that field, that the Sports Department was managing it, and we had to take it to them ”.

The Municipality was “totally unaware” because “we were never asked about that public space”, so “everything was done with the sword” of the local government.

“It is a lack of respect,” said councilor Raúl Gaona (PN). “We never found out”, when the mayor and the councilors “were elected by the people”, while the Directors, in the case of Sports, Diego Berretta, “were not voted for”, but are political positions; and “it can’t be that they come to do something and we don’t find out.”

The mayor clarified that “no one disagrees with improving a public space,” although “the least” they would have had to do is “tell us.”
“It sounds like a very strange thing to me. It is doing politicking, and it is not what corresponds. There is an institution here, you can’t go above it,” Callero remarked.

Antonio Cosati (councilman for the Broad Front) said that one of the people from the group “Palmira Revive” told him about the field, “I thought the Municipality was aware, because they do not inform me of everything” what they do or enter the municipality in management quality.

Nationalist councilors Jorge Quintana and Ester Fernández also disagreed with the lack of information about the field.

At the request of the mayor, it was decided to send a note to the mayor Carlos Moreira requesting an explanation, “if he is aware of this situation and why the Municipality was not notified; something that doesn’t fit.”
